Peanut butter
Originating from Peru and Brazil in South America, peanuts have been grown for near 3,500 years. They were first grown in U.S. in Virginia in the 1800’s and used mainly for their oil content, as food and as a cocoa substitute. In the 1900’s, significant mechanical innovations helped peanut production greatly bringing an increased demand especially for the oil, roasted and salted nuts, peanut butter and candy. Peanut butter is basically just peanuts, often roasted, that are ground until they turn into a paste, which means it is a relatively unprocessed food. Beside its taste, which is well appreciated by dogs, peanut butter is an excellent source of potassium as well as energy with its high oil content. It also provides a good source of protein with low carbohydrates level and fair fiber source.
Banana
It is produced from fresh peeled bananas offering high level of potassium and a good level of energy. It is an excellent carbohydrate source and is used as starch replacement in pet foods (65 percent to 70 percent starch on dry matter basis).
Eggs, whole
Source of highly digestible proteins from fresh eggs, offering a high level of fat as well. Eggs have the highest Biological Value of any protein source, with a 100 percent score as they contain all the essential amino acids (those that must be present in food as they cannot be produced at all or in sufficient quantities by the body to meet requirements), and elements necessary for the creation of an entire living being.
*Biological Value (B.V.) is defined as the relationship (%) between quantity of the nutrient (protein) absorbed and the amount used and held in the animal’s body. It is evaluated according to the amount of essential amino acids «E.A.A.» present versus the amount of nonessential amino acids «N.E.A.A.». The more E.A.A. present, the higher the B.V.
Eggs, whites
Source of highly digestible proteins from fresh eggs without fat (no yolk). Eggs have the highest Biological Value of any protein source, with a 100 percent score as they contain all the essential amino acids.
Quinoa
Quinoa is from the flowering plant family Amaranthaceae and is used primarily for its edible seeds. It is not a cereal as it is not a grass. Quinoa is closely related to species such as spinach and amaranth. It provides an excellent source of carbohydrates with a fairly good protein level and low-fat content. It is also selected for its hypoallergenic properties and high digestibility, serving as an excellent energy source. Quinoa is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates with a very low glycemic index, helping maintain blood glucose levels. It is lower in calories than grains and is an excellent source of fiber, manganese, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorus, folate, and B vitamins.
Brown rice
Rice is the most widely grown cereal in the world after wheat. Brown rice is a whole grain rice that still contains bran and germ, has a higher content of fiber, minerals, and B-complex vitamins. It is the most nutritious of rice, because only the bark has been removed. Still containing the germ, brown rice is more likely to go rancid. It is a source of highly digestible carbohydrates containing very low level of fibers (shelled grains).
Oat flour
Oat is a source of highly digestible carbohydrates containing a good level of fiber that aids digestive system functions. It may also help maintain a good level of energy by its influence on blood sugar level as well as on the cardio-vascular system.
Marine micro algae (Veramaris company)
Marine micro algae are the only marine organisms that actually synthesize Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA). While fish has long been seen as a source of Omega-3s, they only accumulate these fatty acids in their flesh by eating micro algae or other organisms. Unlike fish, micro algae do not accumulate heavy metals and thus provide a wholesome source of Omega-3 fatty acids for use in pet supplements, treats and foods. These are a concentrated alternative source of Omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids extracted from natural marine micro algae. These micro algae are cultivated in a closed environment for quality assurance as well as for the environmental and sustainable aspect. Palatable and stable in all pet food manufacturing processes, they are a proven source of EPA and DHA for dogs at all stages of life.
